Crash Course in Web Design

Crash Course in Web Design is a free web course for graphic designers or anyone who wants to learn web design. The course is intended to teach people the very basics of how to get started in web design, tips of the trade and resources for continuing to learn. Currently the course is in BETA, I’m getting stuff out in a raw form and plan to go back and tighten things up on a second pass.

Part 1 – Basic HTML Tags

This course is not an in depth web courses or meant to teach someone how to design, it is meant to get people started on the web design track. I decided to put this course together because I kept running into graphic designers that really wanted a crash course to get the basics of web and couldn’t find resources that fit their needs.

Crash Course Outline

This is the first pass of the course and some details are still being drilled out but to give you an idea, the course intends to cover:

  • Basics of the internet
  • Preparing
  • FTP
  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • Designing for Web
  • SEO Basics
  • Web Design Resources
  • Finalizing

The goal is by the end of the course to be able to code a basic XHTML / CSS template and understand.

Crash Course Participants

To test out this course and provide a little entertainment along the way I’ve gathered up eight graphic designers that will be competing in a friendly competition, documenting their progress along the way and helping me spread word of the course. I should be able to introduce them soon.

There are several guest professional web designers that will also be contributing their insight and information to the course. I’ll keep you posted on them as well.
