Tools for Remote Networking and Client Meetings

By | Marketing

In today’s day and age time seems to be continually shrinking. We pack more into a day than ever before. Luckily there are tools available that can help us maximize efficiency. It is understood that everybody is a huge fan of new technology but if you’re in business you must learn to leverage these tools if you want to be able to be efficient in comparison to your competitors. Below are some tools for Remote Networking and Client Meetings.

While I enjoy meeting with my clients in many cases it is not practical. For clients in other cities it is hard to arrange but even arranging to meet with local clients in Jacksonville can be a challenge to schedule especially if only a quick meeting is needed.

Tools such as Google HangOut and Skype are free and easy to use. They provide many benefits including:

  • View and hear each other via web-cam & microphones
  • Share your computer screen to review items or provide instruction
  • Pass messages and text via chat
  • Upload and pass filesGoogle Hangout

I use both Google HangOut and Skype to have meetings with clients, review items and discuss ideas. This is really handy when you need to discuss small matters or review visual items together. This can save a lot of time for both parties.

Both tools also have a mobile apps that you can use on the go if you have a mobile device such as a phone or tablet.

Google.com/hangout – Up to 10 people can connect at the same time on the free plan.

This can be a great way to have a networking meeting among several people without the challenge of trying to get everyone in the same place. It’s an upgrade from a phone conference due to it’s visual sharing abilities.

Skype.com

There are many other tools out there so feel free to share ones you like.

Getting Started in SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Getting Started with Search Engine Optimization

By | Marketing, Search Engine Optimization

Getting Started in SEO - Search Engine OptimizationSo you’ve heard about SEO / Search Engine Optimization and you may wonder “What is this?” or “Why do I need it?”, well here’s the deal. “SEO increases Sales.

It’s pretty simple; by using SEO techniques you can make your site rank higher in search engines for certain key terms. You can also increase the likelihood of being found by optimizing for related terms. The easier people can find your website, the more traffic you will get. The more traffic you get, the more chances you have to make a sale (conversion).

Some people are a bit skeptical about SEO because they heard it doesn’t work or don’t understand how it can benefit their business. Again it’s simple.

Marketing is Math

SEO -> More Traffic -> More Sales -> More $$$

There is a reason why this is a competitive industry… SEO generates money.

Now… after that being said, it is crucial that you know what you’re paying for. Some people out there charge for SEO but they don’t focus on the full package. Driving traffic is vital for sales however it is not the only important thing. Having an on-line presence with a strong brand and a website that communicates your marketing message is the other important part.

Furthermore, SEO can be combined with Social Media and Search Engine Marketing to deliver awesome, quick results. If you want to get more business you need to let people know you’re out there… you need to market.

SEO Tip: Don’t get stuck focusing on a highly competitive keyword, work with an SEO consultant to diversify your keyword list.

Key Theory helps businesses market themselves online. If you’re interested in getting more traffic to your website, we’d like to help you. Contact us at info@keytheory.com

Jax Fashion Week 2012

By | Marketing

Jacksonville Fashion Week 2012Key Theory is on for another year of Fashion, Fun, Models and Runways.

In 2010 Key Theory was asked to be a sponsor for Jacksonville Fashion Week. Key Theory developed JFW’s web presence with efforts including a website design, custom Facebook page, a mobile site and some video efforts. The 2011 event was awesome with plenty of designers, models and a great array of killer sponsors.

Designers included Chabri, Bobby K, Erin Healy and more with sponsors including Jacksonville Magazine, Brumos Motorcars, Ponte Vedre Plastic Surgeons and plenty more.

Jacksonville Fashion Week is a blast of Fashion & Fun, I’m glad to be a part of it.” – Kenny Harper

The event was a huge success with a Fashion Night Out, Runway Shows and several other fashion event. Some of the event proceeds went to featured charities: Angelwood Inc, Jacksonville Public Library and Soles 4 Souls.

Jax Fashion Week Runway2012’s featured charity is Dignity U Wear. Their goal is to distribute clothing in a way that maximizes the impact that clothing has on lives.

NPR 89.9 Tech Talk with Melissa Ross

WJCT’s Tech Talk with Melissa Ross

By | Marketing

NPR 89.9 Tech Talk with Melissa RossMelissa Ross hosts a weekly series on WJCT / NPR 89.9 FM called Tech Talk. The segment features a different guest each week that speaks in regards to issues in the tech industry. From PCs to Mobile devices and Security Systems and everything in between, she aims to share some knowledge with the general public on what’s going on in the tech world.

I’m going to be a guest on the show Tuesday September 6th, 2011 @ 9:00 talking about Mobile in Marketing. We may discuss different things such as mobile trends, stats, ways people are using mobile for marketing and more.

I started a project called Time 4 Mobile awhile back to focus on creating mobile optimized websites. However it has become a victim of my own success and the entity’s development is currently on the back burner. I do however still offer Mobile Website Development and more (http://time4mobile)

Ways to market with mobile:

  • Mobile Optimized Website
  • Mobile Aps
  • QR Codes
  • SMS / Text Messaging
  • Mobile Ads

So be sure to tune into NPR News Radio on 89.9 FM Tuesday, September 6 to hear more.

If the date has passed you’ll be able to check out my buddy from Mind Jar Media, Tommy Hobin’s visit to the show where he debated SEO vs Social Media with Keymer P.R.’s Antonio Allegretti. Archives available on www.wjctondemand.org

Setting S.M.A.R.T. goals to achieve results

By | Marketing

Recently I have been re-introduced to the concept of S.M.A.R.T. goals by my Action Coach Steve Goranson. It’s a standard of setting up goals to ensure they meet a specific criteria to ensure the best results for achieving your goals. Key Theory works with clients to set S.M.A.R.T. marketing goals when working on various marketing efforts. The acronym is easy to remember and is a great technique to implement in strategy planning.

S – Specific

Goals should be specific so there isn’t any confusion. You’ve got to nail down your target if you want to hit it.

M – Measurable

Goals should have some way to be able to measure. This helps determine your progress through a period of time.

A – Achievable

It’s great to make challenging goals but they must be realistic or they could hinder results.

R – Results

State what you are looking to achieve with your result. What’s the real point of goal.

T – Timeframe

Have a time frame for your goals so you can measure you progress.

So when creating goals set them up in a way that meet this standard criteria. Clearly define them, break them into smaller parts and track progress daily. There’s a lot more involved to your goals into action but this is a great technique for creating goals.

An fictitious example of a goal for Search Engine Optimization.

Improve FunToys.com web traffic from 7,500 to 9,500 visitors per month to achieve 2 more sale transactions per week in the next quarter.

This method of planning can be very effective but you must be diligent to follow through and keep up with your goals.

Improving the performance of your website with analytics and SEO

By | Marketing, Search Engine Optimization

So you may have a website and you may have statistics or analytics but do you know how to use them? Well most people can see that they have X amount of visitors come per month but aren’t taking advantage of the full power of what could be done with the knowledge they have in front of them.

Google Anaylitics for example let’s you know many things such as “Bounce Rate”, “Average Time on Page”, “Number of Pages Visited” etc… All of this data can be used to tell you how your website is performing. If the bounce rate is really high, people weren’t finding what they were looking for when they got to the site. If the average time on a page is 6 seconds, something is not right.

One thing that we at Key Theory do that really helps our SEO efforts is review the Analytics to really see what’s going on with your site traffic. By setting goals to improve each element of your site performance by a small percent it can have more effect than simply focusing on getting more traffic volume. Which would you rather have 1000 visitors with 30% conversion rate (approx 300) or 2000 visitors with a 10% conversion rate (approx 200).

Just the act of tracking your site’s performance alone can help give you insight on areas to improve in your website.

In order to improve areas, you need to know what you’re doing. You need to track your results. Just like with your financial statements, if you’re flying blind, you’re going off the fumes of luck. It’s not good to do that with your business, and it’s not good to do it with your business online.

Traffic, Leads, Sales… Getting them in sync

Again I bring it up, SEO improves your site visibility increasing your chance to get found in search engines. This is only half the battle, getting people to your site. You then need to know what they are doing when they are there to improve the interaction.

Improving your site performance with SEO and Analytics includes:

  • Analytics Review & Analysis
  • Goal Setting
  • Strategy Development
  • Additional SEO / Social Media Efforts
  • Reviewing Statistics

If you are the kind of hands on person that likes to do your own work and manage your own web efforts then do some research and consider hiring and SEO as a consultant to help you with your efforts. If you don’t want to mess with this but still want better results, then consider investing in improving your website’s performance. It is the 24/7 representation of your company and can make a huge impact with your site’s overall results.

Reasons Why You Need SEO

Reasons Why You Need SEO

location, Location, LOCATION

If you were to open a physical retail store, what is the first thing you learn?  location, Location, LOCATION!  Well… why should that be any different when you go to look for something on the web?  The answer is that it shouldn’t.  Location is so important on the web because if people can’t find you, then what’s the point of having a website?

One statistic that I saw estimates that about 400 to 500 million people search the internet every day and those people total about 88 billion searchers per month!!  That’s a lot of searching!  Well, if that many people are searching, don’t you want to be found?  Which then leads us to the question, “How do people search on the net”?  Because if you don’t know how they search, how do you know how to be found.

Video on SEO

In the video below, I give a live example of how people search on search engines.

Most studies also show that a majority of people that don’t find what they are looking for on page one, strangely enough do NOT go to page two… They perform a completely new search!

This is why it is important to get someone that knows SEO, can find out what people actually search for, and how to make your site visible to those people, because like Kenny Harper showed us on the last Key Theory video, it’s all simple math…

SEO can get you more Traffic, which means more sales, which means more dollars in your pocket!

Leveraging LinkedIn for success

By | Marketing, Social Media

In one of my last posts I wrote reasons why people should have a LinkedIn account. Whether you are looking for a job or own your own business it’s not what you know but who you know and linked in is a great tool for making and keeping track of contacts.

Five tips for succeeding on LinkedIn

Get your profile to 100 percent complete.
It’s not hard to do and it doesn’t even have to be done at once. Try doing one step at a time and it will be done in no time.

Connect with others
Connect with your friends, coworkers and contacts. When you meet someone or get a business card look them up and connect with them.

Join groups and participate
There are a lot of groups on LinkedIn under just about any category you can think of. Take a day of the week and check out some topics, comment on them and connect with others.

Update your status
Whether you do it on LinkedIn, Twitter or another outlet, make sure to keep your account fresh and let people know any recent accomplishments, any insight you can provide or a bit more about your personality.

Be real and interact
This is not a numbers game. You don’t need to race to get a lot of contacts. Grow your contacts in time and juries the relationships you have and always remember to be yourself.

Be sure to check out the various apps on linked in that you can add to your account there are a plethora of apps that can add value to your page

LinkedIn as given me many opportunities and I’m sure it can work for you. Setting aside even five minutes in a day can make a difference. Now go get to it!
